The Motivational Gift of Prophecy

Purpose of the motivational gift of prophecy: The gift of prophecy may not be as easy to recognize as some of the other gifts, yet if you know the specific traits to look for, you can pinpoint it quickly. Some of their character traits are often misunderstood as behavioral issues and attitudes.

PLEASE NOTE: It is especially important to make the distinction between the Romans 12:6 gift (the Greek for "gift" is charisma) of prophecy and the Ascension Gift (Greek for that word is doma) office of a Prophet listed in Ephesians 4:11. The two are vastly different. The Romans 12:6 charisma, gift of prophecy is particularly important to the community, but not on the level of a "doma", Ascension Gift prophet described in Ephesians 4:11. Many people in the faith communities believe that prophecy is only a gift for the church and that a person with this gift only speaks in biblical terminology (as the Old Testament prophets), but this is not always the case. When someone operates with this gift they build up and strengthen others, and they encourage them to live good lives and to grow in integrity and truth.

Those motivated by prophecy comfort others by reminding them of the reward for living a steadfast life. They make them feel comfortable in the assembly and in the truths of God, 1 Cor.14:1, 3. People with this wonderful gift have deep insight into the reality of the person and essence of God and His life principles to fulfill their purpose.

Those with this powerful gift seem to just know things. They often don’t have to have formal education to understand the truth about how life works. See Romans 12:6, I Corinthians 12:10, 14:1-5, 30-33, Ephesians 4:11, and I Peter 1:20-21. Prophesying reveals unrighteous motives or actions by presenting truth. People with this gift have an ability to discern the character and motives of others. They have an insistence that we learn to delineate between good and evil attitudes and actions (not people). They are completely willing to experience personal brokenness as a means of developing personal humility. They have a real concern for Gods' reputation and can bring to light things previously concealed. You must “walk the walk so others will see Christ” is the message of the one with the motivational gift of prophecy.

The purest form of prophecy shows us Jesus and all that is embodied in what he taught and who he is. “… for the testimony of Jesus is the spirit of prophecy.” Rev. 19:10

Character Traits of the Child with the Gift of Prophecy

Recognizing that your little Johnny might have the motivational gift of prophecy shouldn’t be too difficult. These children tend to be obvious. For example: if you just mopped the kitchen floor, your prophecy child will look at it and see the tiny little spot by the fridge that you missed and point it out. He will never see the rest of the clean floor.
